Heads or Tails 5

This week's theme/prompt is:

HEADS - Manner

Chocolate for everyone" was Josef Manner's motto when he founded the confectionery dynasty in 1890. At the time, chocolate was a luxury item. One kilogram of chocolate cost the equivalent of two day's work for the average labourer. A merchant by trade, Herr Manner had a small shop in Stephansplatz in the heart of Vienna where he sold chocolates and coffee.

In the early days the product range included bars of chocolate, "Manner-Chocolade" for general consumption, chocolate sweets, and "pure cocoa" in tins. Their famous wafers were first recorded in 1898 as "Neapolitan Wafers No. 239", so called because the hazelnuts for the filling made from sugar, cocoa butter and cocoa powder came from the Napoli region. Measuring 47 x 17 x 17 mm they were perfect bite-size treats with four layers of filling between five layers of wafer. This format and the basic recipe have remained unchanged to the present day.

Wow...you did stretch the theme this week! Congratulations on a great and unique post.

I love chocolate but I guess I would rarely eat it, if it still cost two days wages for a kilogram block.

I have A chart of good manners up at my place.

I love this. I'd never heard of Josef Manner or his chocolate, but I will be checking out your source. That looks so good.

I had never heard of Manner chocolate or Josef Manner either, but how can you not like a guy whose motto is 'Chocolate for everyone'??? :-)

Interesting (and tantalizing) response to this week's HoTs theme. I'd never heard of this product before.
Hugs and blessings,

All -

Thanks for dropping in. I went looking for something a little different and I found chocolate - go figure!

According to Wikipedia, the wafers were seen in Terminator 3 and they were on display in the glass case at the coffee house in Friends.

If you go to my source, they have several varieties and I've gotta say the apricot ones intrigue me...
