Not necessarily.
Sometimes, being a hero simply means you're willing to do what's right, in spite of any risk, preceived or real, to yourself.
Like Chris Turner of Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Chris delivers pizzas and he recently delivered one to a remote cabin in the mountains. While getting his money, he noticed something a little strange:
It turns out the woman had been kidnapped and raped and her rapist was planning on killing her when he finished with her.
"While I was standing in the door all you could see was the back of the couch," Turner said. "And then she popped over the back of the couch and showed me that her hands were bound. And she was just mouthing, 'Please call 911.'"
What makes Chris a hero is simple - he took a chance. He didn't look the other way or walk away. He believed the woman and called police. He saved her life by doing the right thing.
That makes him a hero, doesn't it?
