There are fire fighters and then there are fire fighters...

I have the utmost respect for fire fighters, wherever they work. Running into a burning building to save people deserves respect.

But, there's a breed of fire fighter that stands out from the crowd. At least in my opinion. They are the one who fight wildland fires.



They are different fires and need a different type of fire fighter. They need someone unafraid to walk literally into the belly of the beast and fight, hand-to-hand if necessary.






They fight a foe that can surround them at a moment's notice, some times jumping into the middle of an inferno.



Their opponent rarely fights fair, chosing to attack from behind, above, carried on the winds themselves.



They fight to protect nature itself and their battles often go unnoticed. So, for today, I choose to notice them.
